I Can Not Believe It! #2

What the heck is Fall?! Here in Florida, this strange thing called seasons are almost non-existent. It seems as if it's summer all year 'round. The only thing we may experience as the year progresses is some slightly cooler weather. But, hey! I'm not complaining here. Even though I may not get to see the beautiful leaves change, I still get to take my daughter outside into some nice cozy weather. I still get to let her comfortably play the days away almost all year long. That's gotta mean something, right?

And thank goodness I survived the craziness that was Hurricane Matthew. Boy, was that scary. Of course, I am on the far West coast so we weren't directly in it's path but that doesn't mean it didn't have me at least a little worried. Floridians usually hear the word "hurricane" and think "Yea, ok, rain.  So what?" but this big ol' storm left a lot of people concerned. However, we survived! Take that, Hurricane Matthew!

Now, as a mom about to give birth in a week, I love all things mommy/baby right now! Cosmopolitan recently released this article, Benefits of Breastfeeding for Moms and I was all over that. Everyone always talks about how it is just so good for baby and there are so many healthy reasons to breastfeed for the baby. I don't ever see much about what it does for us moms. It was quite nice and a little refreshing to see this article and I can't wait to put it's points to the test!

What is something that has made you say "I Can Not Believe It!" this week?

I'm Clueless: How The Heck Do I Set Goals?

I just realized that I have no idea how to set goals!

Well, I know how to set goals. But I am the type of person that will usually just go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens.

But I have to be somewhat realistic. I have to think to myself: what is it I truly want to accomplish? And how do I go about finding both short term and long term goals that go along with whatever it is I am trying to accomplish.

So, I am going to start off with just a few simple goals:
  • I would like at least 100 followers by the end of this year.
  • I want to post at LEAST twice a week.
  • Learn how to manage my time to juggle my daughter, my "work", and myself.
  • I want to start taking more lifestyle photos of the world around me. I mean, my days aren't that boring to where I can't do this simple task.
  • I'd also like to find some fellow blogger friends.

Those seem pretty reasonable, right? Fingers crossed that I will be able to meet these goals!

What are some goals you have set for yourself right now?

Superfoods You Will Actually WANT To Eat

First off, let's begin with "What is a superfood?" Superfoods have been all the rage for a while now. At least that's the case in my area. Some can be delicious and appealing but some can look like something I wouldn't even feed my neighbors pig. If they had one.

"Superfoods (soo⋅per⋅füds, n): 1. Plant-based foods that boast extraordinary energizing and healing properties due to their abundance and density of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, proteins, and other vital nutrients. 2. Something with outstanding qualities that sustains and stimulates the body, mind and soul (i.e., love, sun, pure water, joy)"

It's best to eat superfoods as raw as you can get them. Cooking items such as vegetables has been known to break down a lot of the nutrients found within each food item. However, that does NOT mean you can't get creative and fancy with some of these. At least there are some super foods out there that even the pickiest of eaters wouldn't mind a bite or two of!

BROCCOLI

My daughter and I both LOVE broccoli! We could eat it any way you serve it to us. Raw, boiled, steamed, roasted in the oven 'til crispy. You name it.
  • Contains calcium, magnesium and potassium good for your bones, blood, brain, and teeth
  • Contains beta-carotene which keeps the liver healthy, and has been shown to fight off cancer
  • Rich in Vitamin B which prevents heart attack and stroke

BLUEBERRIES

Add them to yogurt, blend them in a smoothie, or just eat them regularly. However you decide to eat these blue bites of awesome, you won't regret it. They:
  • Are high in fiber which is good for your digestive tract
  • Contain Vitamin A which helps with clear skin and vision
  • Packed full of Vitamin C for immunity and Vitamin E which is an antioxidant
  • Are high in iron, zinc and selenium for extra energy, immunity and increased fertility

AVOCADO

My grandmother refers to this stuff as natures butter. And it's probably somewhat true. This stuff is so creamy, it goes quite well on a piece of toast. Especially if you add some extras like, oh, I don't know.. bacon! Of course mine would be of a premium, meaty cut or even turkey bacon. An avocado:
  • Has high amounts of the healthy fats you need to survive
  • Has lots carotenoid content that prevents growth of oral, head, breast and prostate cancers
  • Contains lutein and Vitamin E which also helps fight cancer!

EGGS

There has been some worry over the amount of cholesterol. However, the Harvard School of Public Health has proven that eating an omelet every day will do you more to benefit you than it would harm you. Eggs are:
  • An excellent source of protein
  • Packed with potassium, calcium and iron: all good for heart and blood health
  • Great for a burst of energy to help start your day off right
  • Great for skin with all of the Vitamin A included in eggs

OLIVE OIL

Use olive oil for frying or add it to dressings. Be careful, though. More than two tablespoons of olive oil a day can end up countering the health benefits and start to work against you. Olive oil:
  • Lowers blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels
  • Helps stabilize blood sugar
  • Reduces risk of cancer
  • Lubricates joints lowering risk of rheumatoid arthritis

CACAO

Also known as cocoa. It is chocolate in just about it's rawest state. Beans plucked right from the source and ground up finely.
  • It's super high in antioxidants
  • Can increase serotonin, often what is lacking in people with depression
  • Reduces the blood's ability to clot
  • May reduce the risk of stroke, heart attacks, and high blood pressure
  • Natural pain suppressant
  • Contains tryptophan, an essential amino acid that lessens anxiety
  • Rich in essential minerals like magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, potassium, and manganese

ALMONDS

These nuts are great to snack on, especially when your busy and may not be able to eat much throughout the day. Be mindful when munching. These tend to be fatty enough to cause weight gain when eaten in excess.
  • High in healthy fats and protein which makes a fulfilling snack
  • Regulates blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Proven to reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer, alzheimers and heart disease
  • Boosts immune system and provides lots of energy with Vitamins E and B-complex
  • High in many minerals: copper, phosphorus, calcium, selenium, magnesium, zinc, and potassium. This means they are great for nearly everything! Hair, eyes, skin and nails, bones, teeth, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, heart, brain, liver and kidneys

OATS

Use whole or rolled oats. Sorry, but the instant packets don’t count. Oats can be added to baking for extra texture, but can be dry out your recipe so be sure to add some extra moisture.
  • High in fiber which regulates the digestive system
  • Decreases cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Loaded with antioxidants
  • Helps in prevention of cancer

COCONUT OIL

The “healthy fat” pressed from the meat of the coconut becomes, you guessed it. Coconut oil. You can pretty much use any search engine and find a huge number of uses for this stuff. Cook with it, use it in a dressing, bake with it, even apply it straight to your skin as a moisturizer. This stuff:
  • Has tons of good, healthy fats
  • Is high in Medium-Chain Fatty Acids which provide an instant boost of energy
  • Helps fight harmful bacteria, helps with indigestion, and strengthens the immune system
  • Contains no trans-fatty acids and is cholesterol free; actually prevents high cholesterol and high blood pressure with lauric acid
  • Improves our body's ability to absorb calcium and magnesium for development of bones
  • Improves secretion of insulin, helping to control blood sugar levels
  • Delays wrinkles, prevents dry skin, and protects wounds from dust, fungi, bacteria and virus

What are some creative ways you think you will use these foods? I'd love to read what you guys come up with in a comment below!

My House Is A Mess And That's Okay

My house is a train-wreck most of the time.
My almost three year old is not potty trained yet.
I plan my meals around what my daughter likes to eat.
At least once a day, I do something to put myself first.

AND THAT'S OKAY!

It's okay to let my two year old PLAY with her toys.
It's okay that my daughter is just not ready for the potty even after months of trying every tip and trick there is out there.
It's okay that my two year old is a picky eater and I mostly serve what I know she will like. (Every now and then I try something different but not always)
It's okay, as a mother, to put myself first sometimes. We can't ALWAYS be 100% about our kids. We need to take care of ourselves as well!

I Can Not Believe It! #1

There are things in life that just make you say: "I Can Not Believe It!" Shoot, my daughter says it all the time. You can say it about things you didn't want or expect to happen, which is usually her reason. Or you can even say it for things you can't believe you hadn't thought of until you see them now!

Before I share some things I found that made me say "Wow" and "I can't believe it" I want to share a post that really warmed my heart. This super sweet blog post just made my day. Go check out The Middle Place by a fellow blogger I love to read.

Now, I am always looking for some ways to make everyday just a little more magical. This blog post is perfect for finding ideas on how to make each day special while living on a budget.

I am LOVING this neat little t-shirt organization tip! I made the switch this week and it is so much easier to see each and every shirt I have. It also helps make just a little more room for those of you like me with drawers that are crammed full of shirts.

This upcoming week, I am TOTALLY going to try this awesome scratch art with the little one! I'm sure she is just going to love it.

What is something that has made you say "I Can Not Believe It!" this week?

How I Am Teaching My 2 Year Old To Read

Can I just say: "WOW!" I had been browsing through some apps when I stumbled upon this little gem.

As a mother, I do everything I can to raise, nurture, and educate my child to the best of my ability. Don't we all? But sometimes it just gets so taxing and we just need a minute to ourselves. Even if it's just a moment to use the restroom in peace.

In my search for fun apps to entertain my child I found the app, Endless Alphabet. If you are like me and don't want to just download thoughtless apps that do absolutely nothing to benefit our children. Shoot, it was hard enough for me to even hand my daughter a tablet or my phone in the first place for SO many reasons. That fear completely went away once I watched the preview to this app! I mean take a look for yourself.

Who knew something could be so fun and so educational at the same time? I've tried numerous educational websites and nothing seemed to work for me and my daughter. Endless Alphabet does!

  • It keeps my daughter entertained
  • It has taught her how to recognize EVERY letter in the alphabet in less than one month(minus the b,d,p confusion)
  • It has even widening her vocabulary tremendously!!

You guys, this app is worth EVERY penny! I suggest you go get it now. Just click this link >>Endless Alphabet<< You will NOT regret it!
